PTI Application

Permit to Install (State):

In Ohio, a Permit to Install (PTI) must be obtained before beginning the construction of an air pollution source. Depending on the complexity of the source to be installed, a PTI is typically issued from one to six months after the application is received. Additionally, air pollution sources that have been installed since 1974 that did not receive a PTI before their construction must still obtain a PTI as a first step towards compliance. Following are examples of activities that can require a PTI:

  • Painting or other coating application booths
  • Storage tanks
  • Printing presses
  • Boilers
  • Incinerators
  • Gasoline fueling stations
  • Plating operations
  • Degreasers
  • Ovens
  • Fugitive emissions from storage piles or roadways
  • Bulk material handling
  • Any other process that may emit air pollution
