Barbershops

Barbershops
The authority to inspect barbershops is granted to the Division of Environmental Health in Chapter 225 of the City of Cleveland’s Codified Ordinances. The purpose of this particular ordinance is to safeguard the health and well being of persons who patronize barbershops. Inspectors from the Division of Environmental Health conduct annual inspections to ensure cleanliness, proper use of equipment, general maintenance and the appropriate methods of equipment sterilization. No person shall maintain or operate a barbershop without having a valid license issued by the Department of Public Health.

§ 225.04 Annual License Fees:

The annual license fee shall be fifty dollars ($50.00) for a barber shop and one hundred seventy dollars ($170.00) for a barber school. All licenses shall expire on December 31 following the date of issuance, and no license shall be issued except for the full license period and for the full license fee. Licenses shall not be transferable but shall be renewable under the same terms and conditions as required for the original issuance.
