Tobacco use is a serious problem for Clevelanders. In fact, over 50% of Cleveland adults have smoked at least 100 cigarettes in their lifetime, and more than 30% continue to smoke.  This is well above the national average, and even much higher than other communities in the State of Ohio.

The good news is that in the past year, 63% of Cleveland adult smokers tried to quit at least once.  Because nicotine addiction is so powerful, it often takes more than one attempt to successfully quit.

Other Clevelanders do not smoke but are still exposed to the dangers of secondhand smoke.  In fact, 77% of Cleveland smokers with children smoke in their homes and expose their children to secondhand smoke.
